Born on 05-12-1955. Obtained BA degree from Allum Sunmangalamma Women's College at Bellary, Law Degree from Renukacharya Law College, Bangalore in 1977. Was sent on a fellowship on Gender and Law in 1977 at Warwick University in England by Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. Was the first lady advocate to practice at Bellary. Served as legal advisor for several Banks, Agro Industries, KEB, KMF & APMC. Handled several important cases both on civil and criminal sides during her practice at the Bar.

Directly selected and appointed as first lady District and Sessions Judge, in the year 1988. Worked as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kolar and Mysore and as Chief Judge, Court of Small Causes and Principal Judge, Family Court at Bangalore. Appointed as First Lady Judge of Karnataka High Court, Bangalore on 21-02-2000.

Was the President of Karnataka Judicial Academy from 21-06-2008 to 25-03-2010. Was also the Executive Chairperson of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and had organised various programmers for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden in the society.

Appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court on 09-11-2011. Sworn in as the Chief Justice of High Court of Kerala on 26-09-2012.
